SBW Brew Demo Day Feb 28

Sacramento Beer Week is coming up, beginning February 26th. While you’re out enjoying all of the finest beers our local breweries have to offer, think about: You can do this too!

Many of Sacramento’s newer craft brewers started off as homebrewers. In fact, several of Sac’s favorite beers were originally crafted on home brew systems in a backyard somewhere in this town!

Come down to BFD on Saturday, Feb 28th, for our annual SBW Brew Demo Day. We’ll be hosting home brewers from UnderGroundBrewSquad, MASH, and other homebrew clubs, who will be brewing on a wide variety of home systems. This is a great opportunity to check out designs to improve your existing system, or perhaps get you ready to take the plunge and start brewing. Are you a brewer with non-brewing friends who regularly raid your taps? Bring them down so they can see how much fun they’re missing.

Sacramento Beer Enthusiasts winner Scott Mills will be brewing with UBS, who designed his dream beer, a key lime IPA.

10 am to 5 pm at BFD.

2015 AHA National Homebrew Competition

nhcbeerThe National Homebrew Competition (NHC), an AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition, is the world’s largest international beer competition recognizing the most outstanding homebrewed beer, mead, and cider produced by amateur brewers worldwide. In 2015, the NHC will host 12 First Round judging sites around the United States. First, second and third place entries that score 30 or above from each of the First Round judging centers will receive ribbons from the AHA and qualify for entry into the Final Round, which will be held in San Diego on June 11, 2015.

The application window is open from February 2 – 8. Then, competitors will be chosen by lottery from the pool of applicants (no first-come first-served frenzy), and beers will be accepted March 2-11.

The NHC First Round Sacramento is proudly held here at BFD! Last year, we hosted 76 judges from six states who judged over 700 entries on-site. Almost 8,200 entries were judged nationwide among the 12 first round sites, and almost 1,000 were judged in the final round in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This year, the numbers will be even higher.

We strongly support your participation, and encourage you to enter the largest homebrewing competition in the world!
