AHA Learn to Homebrew Day Nov 1!

Join hosts UnderGroundBrewSquad for our second annual AHA Learn to Homebrew Day. This is an excellent opportunity to talk with brewers of all experience levels, jump into the craft, or look to improve your brewing skills. At least 12 brewers will be present with systems ranging from stovetop to 15 gallon systems. Brewers will be happy to share their expertise in their equipment setups, recipe development, and procedures so you can brew the perfect beer too!

2013 AHA Homebrewer of the Year Annie Johnson will be demonstrating the PicoBrew Zymatic®, the world’s first all-grain brewing appliance. She will answer your questions on recipe development, and will assess your creations.

GABF: NorCal Brewers Win 7 Medals and Pro-Am Gold!

The Great American Beer Festival, held every fall in Denver, Colorado, is the premier U.S. beer festival and competition. Organized by the non-profit Brewers Association, more than 2,800 different beers from over 600 breweries across America are served, one ounce at a time. Even the Guinness Book of World Records® acknowledges, “There is no other place on earth where a beer aficionado can find more beers on tap.”

The GABF Pro-Am is a competition exclusively for collaborations between homebrewers and a professional craft brewery. This year, out of the 89 beers entered and judged, the gold medal went to Bear Republic Brewing Co and AHA member and homebrewer Michael Kelly with his Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Scottish 80 Shilling. Congratulations to Michael and Team Bear Republic!

Several of our favorite local craft breweries took home medals in one of 90 style categories:

New Helvetia Brewing Co won gold with their Thurston Adambier (a historical beer originating in Dortmund, Germany). Great job Brian and Dave!

Auburn Alehouse took home a silver medal with their Hop Donkey, an Imperial Red Ale

High Water Brewing won a gold medal with their eternally delicious Campfire Stout, AND a bronze with their Aphotic Imperial Porter – nice double play, Steve!

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co won Bronze with their Narwhal Imperial Stout

Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co took home a silver with their  Récolte Du Bois Peach Saison

Bear Republic Brewing Co won Bronze with Double Aught, their Bohemian-style Pilsener

We couldn’t be any prouder of northern California craft brewing! Click here to see the full list of this year’s GABF winners.
