2013 AHA Homebrewer of the Year Annie Johnson will be brewing at the shop this Saturday, November 30th. Come by and watch her work her magic as she crafts a winter beer. You can ask her brewing, style, and quality questions, and just generally hang out. Don’t miss this event!
Cooler weather is here, and that means it’s time to shift to cool-season ferments. Lagers are not limited to Pilsen-style beers – Marzen, Doppelbock, Baltic Porter, Oktoberfest, Dunkel, Schwarzbier, and Steam Beer are all lagers. Commercial examples include Anchor Steam, Spaten Optimator, EKU Kulminator, Paulaner Dopplebock, and Sam Adams Double Bock.
We have a great selection of lagering yeasts in stock right now, including White Lab’s San Francisco Lager, Oktoberfest, Czech Pils, and others. Your garage or basement may well be cool enough for these little beasts, so come on down and get started. Don’t have a recipe? We’ll set you up with one.
If you didn’t make it to BFD last Saturday, you missed out! We saw many new faces and hosted a great group of friendly brewers who walked our guests through the steps of homebrewing, answering questions and offering advice. Members of the UnderGround Brew Squad posse and the other guest brewers produced approximately 40 gallons of beer – a great first-year event.

is supplying their famous Chili!
Members of our own UndergroundBrewSquad and other local homebrew clubs will have their brew systems set up throughout the shop and the back yard. Learn every step in making a batch of beer, from basic stovetop extract brews to all-grain systems…ask questions, get advice, and hang out with a great bunch of people. Of course, AHA Homebrewer of the Year Annie Johnson will be here, too! We are unveiling some new in-house designed beer kits, and special discounts will be available – stay tuned for updates…
Non-Brewers – It’s time to get off the sidelines and into the game! Why watch your friends have all the fun?
Newer Brewers – Are you ready to move from extract to partial-mash, or to all-grain?
O.G. Brewers – Do you have friends who ‘help’ you make beer, but that usually just means drinking your brews while they stir the wort? Send them down!
Learn to Homebrew Day was established by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 1999 to encourage people to homebrew. Get involved!
